King Of The Kids

The old dog gets a second and makes the main event at the Arica Chilean Challenge. Who would have thought, old sleeping beauty finally awakes haha!

I think the main ingredient to my improvement from last year is that I’ve had more of a care free and relaxed approach. To be honest, I’m going into heats not caring if I get knocked, and it makes me go for it more than being tight and anxious. Once I’m out in the line up in a heat I still want to win, but I think I’m not as highly strung as I have been in the past.

After getting second in the Trials I’ve climbed the rankings that little bit more, which means I’m done with the GQS for the rest of the year and can now focus on shooting footage and surf trips. It also means that I can spend more time with my family, not being with them is something that I really struggle with when I go away.

I’m over the moon and really stoked; when I think about the hole I was in this time last year I can only shake my head. My career has been full of ups and downs and I’ve found that if I can ride out the bad results, the criticisms and the self doubts then the tables will turn, which once again I feel they have. I never gave up or got lazy, I just felt like I have been fighting an outgoing tide. Now the tide has finally turned and it feels so good to be back in a rhythm.

That said, I’m still only the King of the kids and the big prize is scalping the big boys in the main event. Should be fun either way haha.

If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s my latest Podcast. Let me know what you think!

Finally you got it! I told you last year that you surfed your best when you had that “f**k it” attitude and just didn’t care about the outcome. Unfortunetely we only had glimpses of that when you had already lost.

Stoked to see you back on track, Kingy! Bodyboarding needs you.

Great podcast, great barrels! What about a Comedy Club in Port Mac one or two nights a week? Just need a restaurant near the beach… Enjoy!
