Behind The Ad # 193

I headed to a tropical island a few months ago for a quick getaway as it looked as though a large swell and favorable winds were forecasted. It’s a place I’ve wanted to go to for years; all of the other guys on the trip [Joe Clarke, Cade Sharp and Chase O’Leary] had been there, but it was my first time.

It’s hard to beat tropical South Pacific islands with their lush tropical vegetation and warm water. All the waves were great; super fun punchy bowls. While we were there we experienced some wild storms, but in between the weather, we scored sick waves.

The photo from this ad [Riptide 193, shot by Ryan Jones] was from one of the bigger days and it was bliss; just us surfing and no one else around except for the locals that live in the village across from the spot.

As a tradition that the locals uphold, you have to pay to surf the waves. They’re the nicest people though, after surfing this spot for almost a week straight they felt bad for taking our money and treated us to a local pig cooked on coals.

All-in-all, it was a great experience and I’m really missing those tropical vibes now that Winter’s slowly creeping in.
