Behind The Ad # 9

This past Winter was ridiculous with back-to-back swells and amazing winds. The day this ad [Le Boogie 9] was shot wasn’t even close to the best of this nine-day swell. Read more…

Team Australia

Lachlan Cramsie (above centre) and the rest of Team Australia – Joey Orme, Nicole Fleming, George Humphries and Aaron Glossop – left Sydney Airport today to compete in the first ever stand alone ISA World Bodyboarding Games in Galdar, Canary Islands starting November 27th.

The event features 21 Teams from around the globe competing for the mantle of World Amateur champion. IBA Australasia General Manger Terry McKenna says that the team is bursting with talent.

“The riders were selected directly off the recent National titles in Kiama and are in great form. They are a fresh young team that represents a new era in Australian bodyboarding,” he said.

“Nicole, Lachie and George all won Australian Titles and Joey was runner up in the Open Mens. I expect that this team will surprise the other nations and bring home some great results,” Terry added.

Hit us up on Facebook and Twitter for updates and results. Good luck Lachie!

Welcome To The Family

We are proud to announce the signing of 17 year old Lachlan Cramsie to our Bodyboard Team. The announcement comes on the heels of Lachlan’s recent success on IBA Australasia Pro Tour and his victory in the Open Mens division at the 2011 Nationals, his third Australian Title in as many years.

“Those three results [second in the VIC Pro, second in the Knights Beach Pro and first at the Nationals] were impossible to ignore,” Unite Managing Director, Joel Taylor said. “He’s taken the next step, and it’s about time we did too. We’re stoked to officially have him on the Team!”

Lachie was equally excited with the news, “I loved the brand even before I was getting flowed. Now I’m amped to be a part of Unite, and the Team, as it grows.”

He had been a member of the Unite Flow Team, an unofficial program that aids in the progression of bodyboarding’s youth, for a year and a half before today’s announcement. The fact that there hasn’t been a change to the Unite Team since Alex Halsey joined the roster in early 2009 proves that the decision didn’t come lightly.

“It’s always a worry putting younger riders on the Team,” Joel admitted. “The sport has seen some amazing talent come and go in the past so I like to make sure that a new Team rider – especially someone of Lachie’s age – is the right person, and right fit, for our brand. He fits the mould perfectly!”

He continued, “We’ve worked closely with Lachie over the past 18 months or so and it’s obvious that he’s committed to Unite and dedicated to making a career out of bodyboarding. He’s one of, if not, the best [rider] for his age in Australia and we’re excited to build our partnership with him well into the future.”

Lachlan joins Ryan Hardy, Damian King, Michael Novy, Nick Ormerod, Winston McCall and Alex Halsey on the 2012 Unite Bodyboard Team. “It’s such a privilege. I look up to everyone on the Team and I’m proud to have the same sponsor as some of the biggest names in the sport,” said Lachie.

With a sixth place finish on the 2011 IBA Australasia Pro Tour, three National Titles and sponsorship backing from some of bodyboarding’s biggest and best brands, the world is at Lachie’s feet.

“In between finishing Year 11 at school, I want to travel and get as much footage and as many photos as I can. I just finished up at the camp [at the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre], now I’m off to the Canary Islands for two weeks for the ISA World Bodyboarding Games and the Fronton comp. After that I’m heading to Hawaii for the Pipe comp.”

Lachlan is sponsored by Stealth Boards, Unite, Reeflex, Inverted and Dragon.

Unite TV

http://vimeo.com/uniteclothingco/unite-tv-episode-1-winston-mccall

We are proud to announce the launch of Unite TV, a Podcast series based primarily on the Unite Team and their life experiences at home and abroad. Unite TV Episode 1 features Winston McCall in his debut video part and is released to coincide with his eight page interview in Riptide 184.

Winston filmed the entire section throughout Winter 2011 in between tours with his band Parkway Drive and the footage is largely from the same sessions included in his Riptide profile.

“We lucked into a couple of swells down South and it was a great Winter at home,” Winston claimed. “We got super lucky, there were solid back to back swells with good winds and classic banks. I’m normally away when conditions like that line up,” he laughed.

Winston once again teamed up with Caleb Graham, producer of the official music video for the Parkway Drive track “Karma”, and judging by the results the combination is clearly working well.

“It was great hanging out with Caleb again. He’s super keen to shoot, it’s sick to have someone around who’s down to get the job done,” said Winston.

Caleb continued, “We managed to link up for some mental waves in between every [Parkway Drive] tour this Winter. Our local breakwall had amazing banks and we lucked into two South Coast trips, scoring amazing waves both times.”

Most people know Winston McCall as the vocalist for Parkway Drive, but it’s obvious that his passion for bodyboarding hasn’t been forgotten as they grow in popularity and his commitments to the band increase.

“People who have witnessed his froth levels in the water this year will know how amped the guy is to surf. He’s a full blown frothing grommet in the body of a tattooed 29 year old,” laughed Caleb.

Unite TV is available on YouTube, Vimeo and iTunes. To view or download the latest episode, visit uniteclothingco.com/unitetv.

Behind The Ad # 184

The day that the photo for this ad was taken [Riptide 184, shot by Nick Bannehr] in late August was one of my last surfs before tour. The waves were looking bad at home so we decided to try our luck down South for a quick two day hit and run mission. The forecast still didn’t look the best down there but we figured we’d have a better chance with a few more options. Read more…

King Shit

We are excited to announce the launch of King Shit, a blog by recently crowned 2011 IBA Dropknee World Champion, Damian King. King Shit promises to give readers a unique and lighthearted insight into the life of one of the world’s best bodyboarders and the sports biggest character.

“I have some amazing experiences travelling and I think a blog is great for others to see where you are, what’s been happening and what the life of a bodyboarder is like,” Damian said. “It’s a cool way for people to read and watch what you’re up to.”

Unlike his previous blog, we have given Kingy free reign over King Shit.

“It will probably come back to bite us in the ass, but at least it will be entertaining,” laughed Unite Managing Director, Joel Taylor. “Kingy is not only one of the best bodyboarders in the world, but he’s also the one of the sports true characters. He’s three times World Champion, but he doesn’t take himself, or anything for that matter, too seriously. King Shit will reflect that.”

Joel continued, “Anyone that read his old blog or has watched his films knows that he’s a joker… he’s The Joker, but he’s also very knowledgeable and opinionated about life and bodyboarding. We don’t want to censor the real Damian King; what you’ll see and read on King Shit is what you get.”

There’s no denying that the life and travel commitments of a professional bodyboarder on the IBA World Tour is anything but hectic, yet Damian plans to keep King Shit updated with regular posts, photos and videos.

“I want to do a new post every couple of days. I think that’s the key, people always want fresh content,” claims Damian. “I’ll keep it as real and honest as possible; I reckon if you stick to that you can’t go wrong.”

To follow King Shit and receive regular updates, visit and bookmark uniteclothingco.com/kingshit.
